PILGRIM JOURNEY ACTIVITY FOR PEREGRINOS BY ENCONTRO LIFELONG LEARNING STUDIO:
STEP 1: Take a moment to go to the Tabernacle in the city you are pilgrimaging to this day (even virtually if you are sick / homebound / suffering).
STEP 2: There, take out your Rosary, and then talk to Jesus before you begin to pray the Rosary, asking Him what you are to learn on this journey.
STEP 3: Then, authentically ask Jesus to grant you, in the time God wishes, for the gift of Joy to be presented in your heart, despite your sufferings and sorrows.
STEP 4: FINAL STEP is to pray the decades of the Rosary in Portugal with Fr. Nuno's toolkit.

DATE: 1879 and 1892
AUTHOR: João d’ Affonseca Lapa.
MATERIALS: Polychrome wood. Outfits in satin and embroidered velvet and silver starry halo. (Nª Madam)
OWNER: Church of Nossa Senhora da Lapa, Póvoa de Varzim.
DESCRIPTION: Sculptural group, not aggregated, with two life-size images:
- Archangel Gabriel. Full-length sculpture. Assigned “Affonseca Lapa sculpt (?) / Gaya 1879”
- Our Lady kneeling. Wearable sculpture. Assigned “Affonseca Lapa / sculpture 1892 / Gaya”
The sculptures are naturalistic and carved with great erudition and technical expertise.
The Archangel St. Gabriel is completely sculpted, as the artist, to represent a celestial figure, designed the undulating clothes and the hair slightly raised, as if he came flying and was landing at that moment. It is a beautiful and elegant ephebe, with a clear classic inspiration.
In turn, the image of the Virgin Mary is more realistic and, although the body and hair are sculpted, the clothing is made of fabrics, giving it a more human and earthy overall appearance. She finds herself absorbed in looking at the scroll with sacred texts. The sculptor represented her with a serene expression, probably reflecting the moment in which she understands and accepts the role that God assigns to her, of being the Mother of His Son, after the moment of natural agitation upon the arrival of the angel.
